Mark Chapter 16
Those last twelve verses.
In our time it seems that there is some doubt that the last twelve verses of Mark’s Gospel are a genuine part of the Word of God. Should these verses be in our Bibles?
Many argue that verses 9–20 should not be considered as part of the Bible because they are not found the two Greek copies of the Scriptures that are favoured by some of the leading Bible scholars. Although these two manuscripts are ancient, are they reliable?
There are others who like to look at the ‘big picture’ and consider all the available evidence; for instance, what do the writings of the ‘Early Church Fathers’ reveal to us?
There is an argument that the material in these verses was taken from the other gospel writings and added to Mark to 'round it off.' The reverse argument could also be made, that the other gospel writers borrowed from the last twelve verses of Mark. We should note that Mark wrote his gospel first, before the others were written.
We should consider all the evidence that we can find before we discard those last twelve verses of the Gospel of Mark.
The publication, MARK 16 Those Last Twelve Verses, By Geoff Capon, details much of the available evidence. This publication is available in PDF for you to read and consider the evidence presented. Click where shown below.
